Session 3 – Promoting Cultural Diversity: An EU-wide Co-operation Policy?
The Unesco Convention encourages countries to sign bilateral co-production agreements. Providing access to partner countries’ support systems, they are instrumental for cultural diversity. What could act as an incentive to sign bilateral co-production agreements? The EU is currently negotiating with several countries (or regions) bilateral trade agreements that include cultural and audiovisual co-operation protocols, in line with the Unesco Convention on the Promotion of Cultural Diversity. The participants will try and define how and to what extent these protocols can foster cultural diversity by supporting the film industry in southern countries, and discuss what role the EU should play in this.
